Abstract

This study examines hunting and falconry in the Islamic world from a historical-analytical perspective, tracing the formation of this body of knowledge from its early presence in linguistic and juristic works to its consolidation in specialized treatises by the end of the fourth century AH. It aims to analyze the patterns of its classification within Islamic writings and to identify the main approaches through which it was treated—namely the linguistic, legal, and specialized approaches—while exploring the nature of their interrelationship in organizing knowledge. The study shows that hunting and falconry evolved from scattered practical experience into a structured, written body of knowledge. It argues that the differences among these approaches did not lie in the material itself, but in the ways it was organized within texts: linguists addressed it in terms of vocabulary and meanings, jurists in terms of legal rulings, and specialized authors as an organized practical discipline. It further demonstrates that this development contributed to stabilizing terminology, systematizing legal rulings, and organizing practical expertise, thereby paving the way for the emergence of more specialized works in this field.

الملخص

تتناول هذه الدراسة الصيد والبيزرة عند المسلمين من منظور تاريخي تحليلي، مع تتبع تشكّّل هذه المعرفة منذ حضورها المبكر في كتب اللغة والفقه، حتى استقرارها في مصنفات متخصصة إلى نهاية القرن الرابع الهجري/ العاشر الميلادي. وتهدف إلى تحليل أنماط تصنيفها داخل المصنفات الإسلامية، وبيان خصائص الاتجاهات الرئيسة التي عالجتها، ولا سيما الاتجاه اللغوي والشرعي والمتخصص، مع الكشف عن طبيعة العلاقة بينها في تنظيم المعرفة. وتُُظهر الدراسة أن الصيد والبيزرة انتقلا من خبرة عملية متفرقة إلى معرفة مدونة ذات بناء منظم، وأن الاختلاف بين هذه الاتجاهات لم يكن في المادة ذاتها، بل في طريقة تنظيمها داخل المصنف؛ إذ عالجها اللغوي من جهة الألفاظ، والشرعي من جهة الأحكام، والمتخصص من جهة الخبرة العملية. كما تبين أن هذا التدرج أسهم في تثبيت المصطلح، وتقعيد الأحكام، وتنظيم الخبرة، مما مهّّد لظهور مؤلفات أكثر تخصصًًا في هذا الفن.
