الاختلافات في استراتيجيات المداراة بين الناطقين باللغة العربية النجدية والإنجليزية الأمريكية في التواصل الاجتماعي: دراسة عبر الثقافات
Abstract
Uncovering what constitutes polite language in each culture and how certain expressions deemed acceptable in one society might be inappropriate in the other is the focus of politeness. Therefore, this study investigates the variations in communication strategies among speakers of Najdi Arabic, as spoken in Bisha City, and speakers of American English. The study basically explores how individuals from these distinct linguistic backgrounds respond to five different social scenarios. The study used qualitative approach to detect the responses of 15 speakers—11 Saudi Arabian natives and 4 Americans on some situations. Findings show there are some similarities in what may be considered courteous in both contexts, our study predominantly highlights the differences, illustrating the interplay between cultural norms and linguistic expressions. In contrast to the direct and formal style of American English speakers, Najdi speakers typically employ an indirect and empathetic communication strategies, characterized by a positive and respectful tone. This contrast underscores the diverse strategies of politeness and interaction within these two cultures.
الملخص
إن الكشف عما يشكل لغة مهذبة في كل ثقافة، وكيف أن بعض التعبيرات التي تعتبر مقبولة في مجتمع ما قد تكون غير مناسبة في المجتمع الآخر هو محور التأدب. ولذلك، تبحث هذه الدراسة في الاختلافات في استراتيجيات التواصل بين المتحدثين باللغة العربية النجدية، كما يتحدثها سكان مدينة بيشة، والمتحدثين باللغة الإنجليزية الأمريكية. وتستكشف الدراسة بشكل أساسي كيفية استجابة الأفراد من هذه الخلفيات اللغوية المختلفة لخمسة سيناريوهات اجتماعية مختلفة. واستخدمت الدراسة المنهج الكيفي للكشف عن استجابات 15 متحدثًا - 11 من مواطني المملكة العربية السعودية و4 أمريكيين - في بعض المواقف. وتظهر النتائج وجود بعض أوجه التشابه في ما يمكن اعتباره لباقة في كلا السياقين، وتسلط دراستنا الضوء في الغالب على الاختلافات، وتوضح التفاعل بين المعايير الثقافية والتعبيرات اللغوية. فعلى النقيض من الأسلوب المباشر والرسمي لمتحدثي اللغة الإنجليزية الأمريكيين، عادةً ما يستخدم المتحدثون النجديون استراتيجيات تواصل غير مباشرة وتعاطفية، تتميز بنبرة إيجابية ومحترمة. ويؤكد هذا التباين على الاستراتيجيات المتنوعة للأدب والتفاعل داخل هاتين الثقافتين.
